Dr. David Hartl has more than 45 years of experience in leading, consulting, coaching, training, and teaching about leadership, teams, and executive, managerial, and organizational effectiveness. He partners with client organizations to help them achieve their performance goals and objectives. He adds value to client relationships by using his advanced education and deep experience to help think through important issues, develop action strategies and techniques, weigh potential costs and benefits, avoid pitfalls, and applies his well-developed business judgment to complex organizational and leadership concerns.

Dr. Hartl is a dynamic presenter, expert facilitator, empathetic coach, and rigorous survey researcher. His clients have included Fortune 500 Corporations, high-tech businesses, manufacturing companies, professional partnerships, institutions of higher education, health care organizations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. He has also completed successful consultancies in the Middle East with the Government of Bahrain, and the Far East with the governments of Hong Kong and Singapore.

His undergraduate degree is in communication. He was graduated on the Dean's List, President of the Student Government, and selected by the BU News as the 1962 Boston University "Man of the Year." Additionally, Hartl holds a masters degree in adult education (1965) and a doctorate in social psychology (1974), both awarded by Boston University. He is professionally certified and has recently been designated as a "Master Practitioner" in the use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator™ (MBTI™) and certified in other psychological instruments. He is the author of more than 250 articles, book chapters, monographs, research reports, and papers in the fields of leadership, management, team building, adult education, training, planned organizational change, coaching, mentoring, stress management, and psychological and temperament type in organizations.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Hartl taught in the graduate program of public administration at the University of Southern California where he also served two-year stints as Director of the Center for Training and Development and Chair of the Organization Behavior department. In recent years he has been teaching part time in the graduate programs of business administration and Global Logistics at California State University, Long Beach. He currently teaches in the Executive Education Programs of the UCI Paul Merage School of Business where he is a Fellow of the Center for Leadership and Team Development. He has also taught in the graduate program of Human Resources and Leadership at Chapman University. Prior to moving to California in 1976, he taught in the graduate programs of adult education at Boston University and The Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Hartl is a former or current professional member of the American Management Association, The Academy of Management, national member of the American Society for Training and Development and past president of the ASTD Orange County Chapter, national member of the Organization Development Network and a Founder and the first Coordinator of the Orange County OD Network, member of the American Society for Public Administration, life member of the Association for Psychological Type, and life member of the World Future Society. He has been a presenter at the local and/or national conferences of all of these professional associations.
